Letters From Miami began as a small hand-drawn zine about the places, creatures, and corners of a city that most people think they already know.

It has since become something harder to define and more interesting to be part of.

Miami is a city that gets described from the outside more than it gets understood from within. The beaches, the parties, the money, the heat — these are the words that follow it everywhere. But underneath that image is something more complicated and more human: a city built by people who came from somewhere else, who brought their languages and their food and their grief and their humor, and who made something entirely their own out of a piece of land that probably should not sustain this much life.

Letters From Miami exists to document that city. The real one. The one that changes faster than anyone can quite keep up with, where a neighborhood can transform completely in a decade

and the people who made it what it was are left to find somewhere new to belong.

Each issue takes a single subject (public transportation, birds, a restaurant on US1) and uses it as a doorway into a larger conversation about identity, memory, culture, and place. The writing is literary and curious. The illustrations are made by hand. The contributors are Miami artists, writers, poets, and thinkers who bring their own distinctive voices to every page.

Letters From Miami is edited by Milena Brown, a Colombian writer and illustrator who came to Miami ten years ago and has been paying close attention ever since. It is printed in limited editions, distributed by subscription and in select locations across the city, and sent through national literary access networks to readers who might not otherwise have something beautiful to hold.​​

It is, above everything else, a love letter to a city that deserves more than a postcard.
